Greenland Selected for UVA District Energy Plant Expansion

Greenland Enterprises has been selected as the General Contractor to expand the University of Virginia North Grounds district energy plant. This will be the second district energy project Greenland is providing for UVA. In 2019 Greenland completed an upgrade to the main campus heating plant.

The North Grounds project includes installing a 1,300-ton centrifugal chiller with free-cooling capabilities, two 6,000 MBH condensing boilers, three 236-ton heat recovery chillers and one 1,280-ton cooling tower. Also included are piping and controls upgrades for the various systems. The project’s expansion scope will address electrical, plumbing and structural needs to allow for installing the new equipment, along with demolishing and removing the existing heat recovery equipment and piping.
