Field Erected Industrial Hot Water Generator, Charlottesville, VA

Project Overview

Project: Main Heat Plant Boiler #6
Owner: University of Virginia
Location: Charlottesville, VA
Project Type: Boiler Plant Renovation
Role: Construction Manager

Greenland was the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMR) selected by the University of Virginia (UVA) to install a new 83.3 MMBtu/hr. Medium Temperature Hot Water (MTHW) boiler. The project required several modifications to the existing infrastructure inside the main heat plant in order to accommodate the new MTHW boiler. Major modifications were needed to support the weight of the new boiler; new electrical service was needed to power the new boiler, fan, and associated pumps; a new controls system was installed to control the boiler with the ability to expand controls to the entire main heat plant; and new hot water piping was installed to supply the new boiler in series with the existing hot water system.
