Greenland was the Construction Manager responsible for demolishing and reconstructing the chilled water plant at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. The project included replacing pipes, pumps, three centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and all associated controls systems. The chilled water plant infrastructure was originally designed to be replaced in phases, which would have extended the construction period significantly. Greenland provided a solution that allowed our team to completely demolish the existing chiller plant while maintaining the utilities throughout the shortened construction period. It also allowed unobstructed access for demolition, installation, and startup. The entire electrical system was demolished and replaced with new wiring, switch gear, and motor control centers. The centerpiece of this project was a premium-efficiency chiller plant, all designed to minimize overall plant kW/Ton during a wide range of operating conditions.
