Project: Boiler Replacement
Owner: US Army Corps of Engineers
Location: Soo Locks, Sault Sainte Marie, MI
Project Type: Boiler Plant Renovation
Role: Prime Contractor

Greenland was selected to replace the boiler system in the steam plant building at the Soo Locks in Sault Sainte Marie, MI. The design-bid-build project included the demolition and removal of an existing boiler system and related mechanical equipment and the installation of three natural-gas package boilers that each provide 5M BTUs per hour. Greenland also constructed a utility tunnel and trench to connect the steam plant building with the Poe Lock gallery and perform other necessary building improvements.

The project was particularly challenging given the location between the Poe and Davis locks and the requirement to access the site via water for delivery and removal of the construction equipment and boilers.
